History

East and West Quarry were two of the six active quarries in Appley Bridge post-war which contributed to the village being one of the most industrialised in England during this period.  In addition to the quarries, Appley Village also contained a concrete flag and kerb manufacturer, brickworks, a bone and glue works, a linoleum works, a pallet manufacturer, plant hire and a concrete sectional garage manufacturer.

Quarrying in the village declined during the 1980s and works at East Quarry finally ceased in 1992.  Since then the East Quarry void has largely filled up with water.  West Quarry ceased operations in 1978 and has been successfully restored.
