Proposed Gospel Hall, Whittingham Lane, Goosnagh

Background

The Blackgate Trust is a local charitable Trust which represents the interests of members of an evangelical Church community resident in Whittingham/Goosnargh.  The Trust is seeking to provide and administer an appointed place of worship on the site of a former MOD generator building.

History

It is understood that the site/building was associated with other Ministry of Defence buildings and underground structures in the locality.  The building provided power/services to those other structures.  It has been redundant for many years. The building is shown in the image below.

Issues

The building exists as a feature in the local landscape and is not particularly edifying in terms of its form or appearance.

National planning policy provides for the replacement of existing buildings, and for the provision of local facilities to meet the needs of all members of communities.

It is believed that there is an opportunity to provide a modest replacement building in an improved landscaped setting to meet the needs of the Blackgate Trust community.

The building proposed will be a dedicated place of worship and will be used exclusively for worship and associated meetings such as prayer meetings and bible readings.

Proposed Development

The proposed Gospel Hall/Meeting Room will be located to the rear of the site (following demolition of the MOD building). It is a modest single storey building in the agricultural vernacular. The development also includes parking and ancillary areas to serve the hall.

The building will be used for Sunday worship and for prayer meetings and bible readings. The plans for the building can be viewed by clicking on the images below.

Benefits

  • Removal of unsightly building;
  • Simple modest replacement building;
  • Intermittent and low-key use;
  • Good quality landscaped setting ;
  • Secured by design principles – to encourage passive surveillance of all open areas of the site;
  • The provision of a local facility to serve the congregation resident in the Goosnargh/ Whittingham area.
