Infill dwelling permitted in Green Belt village

Steven Abbott Associates LLP has won an appeal for the erection of a new residential dwelling in an area of Coppull which lies within the Chorley Green Belt.

The crux of the case was the location of the appeal site outside the settlement of Coppull which Chorley Council judged to be a cause to refuse the application as they deemed it to be inappropriate development in the Green Belt. However, the Inspector agreed with the appellant’s case put forward by Steven Abbott Associates LLP  that the proposals constituted appropriate infill development in accordance with both local and national planning policy.

Local architect Tom Lockwood worked alongside Steven Abbott Associates LLP on the project.

Christie McDonald, Associate at Steven Abbott Associates LLP, said:

“This was a really pleasing result given the hard work that was put into both the application and appeal. It is considered to be a far reaching decision because it has now clarified the Planning Inspectorate’s interpretation of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) when it comes to Green Belt development outside of defined settlements.”
